What is laser dentistry?
Believe it or not, laser dentistry has been around for more than 20 years. You may have even experienced laser dentistry when having your teeth whitened or the last time you had a cavity filled. Modern day technology allows us to do so much more including restorative bone and gum treatments and as an incredibly precise and pain-free alternative to the traditional dental drill.
Dental lasers are so precise, we are able to remove much more bacteria and decay without damaging the tooth. Lasers also prevent bleeding and swelling. Our patients have reported much less discomfort and a much faster recovery and often require much less or no freezing during their visits.
Laser dentistry has been approved by the Canadian Dental Associate and is very safe. At Sheppard Village Dental, we also have a DiagnoDent. A different kind of laser dentistry which is non-invasive cavity detector. It uses a very bright and focused beam of light to allow us to see through your teeth without radiation.
Why choose a dentist that offers laser-assisted dentistry?
More conservative treatment
Quicker healing time
Less heat or vibration compared to traditional drilling
Reduces tooth sensitivity
Precision and safely proven through scientific research
Significantly more comfortable
Safer cavity detection for women who are pregnant

Your consultation will include an examination of everything from your teeth, gums and soft tissues to the shape and condition of your bite. Generally, we want to see how your whole mouth looks and functions. Before we plan your treatment we want to know everything about the health and aesthetic of your smile, and, most importantly, what you want to achieve so we can help you get there.
